First Aid at Work

This course is designed for the employee who is designated as the workplace first aider and is based on the HSENI training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work courses for the purposes of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982

Topics covered include:

• Understanding the role and responsibilities of the first aider
• How to assess an emergency situation safely
• Managing an unconscious casualty
• Managing a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
• Managing a casualty who is choking
• First aid for a casualty who is bleeding externally
• First aid for a casualty suffering from shock
• Managing a casualty who has a minor injury
• Managing illness and injury in the workplace including
• Conducting a secondary survey
• Fractures, sprains and strains
• Head and spinal injuries
• Chest injuries
• Conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
• Chronic medical conditions including asthma, diabetes, meningitis, febrile convulsions
• Electric shock
• Burns & scalds
• Poisoning

To renew this qualification, the candidate must complete a 12 hour refresher course which must have commenced prior to the date of expiry of the full certificate

Certificate = 3 years
Duration = 18 hours
